Passport or Visa photo

The current UK passport photo has to meet biometric specifications. Our photograph sets, made from your photos, are guaranteed to pass all of these rules.

• No glasses should be worn
• Facial expression must be neutral
• Hair fringe must be above the eyebrows
• Smiling and showing of teeth is not allowed
• No shadows or creative lighting is permitted

We will remove any shadows from the background and ensure that the background is the correct shade of grey. Submitted photographs are often too dark due to inadequate exposure, we will correct your image to ensure that the photograph is sufficiently bright.

Canada

Passport,Visa, Permanent Residency and Immigration photos

All submitted photos will printed to conform to the canadian authorities regulations. Two photographs will be stamped, on the reverse, with our studio details and the date on which the photographs were taken.

• Glasses may be worn if they do not reflect any lights
• Background is white
• Facial expression must be neutral
• Head scarves must not cover any of the face
• Smiling and showing of teeth is not allowed

Background shadows will be removed and exposure and colour corrections will be made where necessary.

United States of America

Passport or Visa

Uploaded photographs are guaranteed to pass all regulations. The photos are also emailed to you as you may need them if you are applying for a US visa as you will have to fill in a ds-160 online visa application form.

• Glasses should be worn if you normally wear them (unless they reflect light)
• Background is plain white or off-white
• Religious head scarves must not cover any of the face
• Slight smiling is allowed (but best avoided)
• No shadows or creative lighting is permitted

We will remove background shadows and ensure that the background matches the required white (or off-white).

A digital version of your photo will be emailed to you free of charge.

Argentina

Passport and Visa Photos

If you follow the guidelines below, you will have no problems when using our online passport photo service.

• Glasses should not be worn
• Background is plain white (light blue for visa)
• Facial expression must be neutral
• Pose should be three-quater profile (as in photo on the left)
• Print size is 1.5 inch square (4x4 cm for visa)
• Neutral expression
• No shadows or creative lighting is permitted

Background shadows will be removed and colour and exposure corrections will be made.

Holland

Passport Photos

The passport photo regulations for Holland are possibly the strictest in Europe and differ from those of most other E.U. member states. It may be necessary to send us more than one photo, so that we can choose the best one.

• Glasses can be left on but they are best removed to guarantee acceptance
• Background is plain light grey
• Facial expression must be neutral
• Hats and scarves are allowed only when of religious significance
• No shadows or creative lighting is allowed

Background shadows will be removed. Corrections will be made for poor exposures and colour white balance anomalies.

Passport, Visa and OCI Photos

Passport and Visa photo regulations for India may vary. We will print to whatever size photograph your passport application form requires. Visa and OCI photos are both now 2 inches square

(50x50mm or 51x51mm)

- Though they differ in composition.

• Glasses can be left on if they do not show any reflections
• Background is white or off-white (light grey for OCI)
• Facial expression must be neutral

Background shadows will be removed. Corrections will be made for colour and exposure.

Ireland

Passport and Visa Photos

The passport photo regulations for Ireland are not the same as the UK passport photos.

• Glasses can be worn as long as your eyes are completely visible
• Background is white to light grey
• Facial expression must be neutral with no smiling or teeth showing
• Photos can be black & white or colour.
• No shadows or creative lighting is allowed

Shadows will be removed from the background if necessary and corrections will be made for exposure and colour wherever needed.

China

Passport and Visa Photos

The passport photo regulations for China now conform to the international biometric standard passport photos, though the sizes are not the same as for most countries.

• Glasses can be worn as long as your eyes are completely visible
• Background is white or light blue
• Facial expression must be neutral with no smiling or teeth showing
• No hats or head scarves can be worn
• Visa size is identical to the US visa. Passport is 48mm x 33mm

Background shadows will be removed and the background colour and tone will be corrected accordingly. Though it is best to use a background that is close to the one required. Corrections will be made for exposure and colour if necessary.

Israel

Passport and Visa Photos

The passport photo regulations for Israel are similar in composition and print size to the American passport photo. They differ only in the following respects:

• Subject must be looking straight ahead with both ears showing.
• Subject should be dressed neatly.
• White clothing should be avoided as it lacks sufficient contrast against the light grey background.
• Visa specifications are identical to the passport specifications.

Corrections will be made for exposure and colour. Also, shadows will be removed from the background..

Germany

Passport and Visa Photos

The passport photo regulations for Germany are similar in composition and print size to the British and other European passport photos. They differ mainly in respect of head covering which is not allowed (even for religious reasons)

• Subject must be looking straight ahead.
• Glasses may be worn if they do not reflect any light or the frames do not obscure your eyes.
• No head coverings are allowed.
• Visa specifications are identical to the passport specifications.

Corrections will be made for exposure and colour. Shadows will be removed from the background if necessary.

Spain

Passport and Visa Photos

The passport photo regulations for Spain are different to all other European union specifications, though Spanish passports now conform to international biometric standards. Spanish passport photos are smaller than other European union photos - measuring only 30mm by 40mm.

• Subject must be looking straight ahead.
• Glasses are best removed if they reflect the light or the frames obscure the eyes.
• Background must be white.
• Visa specifications are identical to the passport specifications.

Corrections will be made for exposure and colour. Shadows will be removed from the background.

Australia

Passport and Visa Photos

The passport and visa photo regulations for Australia are different to those for British passports. Australian passport/visa photos can be printed as any size between 35mm by 45mm to 40mm by 50mm. We print ours at 40mm by 50mm.

• Subject must be looking straight ahead.
• Glasses are best removed if they reflect the light.
• Background must be plain and light.
• Visa specifications are identical to the passport specifications.
• No hats or scarves can be worn for Australian Passport/visa photos.

Corrections will be made for exposure and colour. Shadows will be removed from the background.

Brazil

Passport and Visa Photos

The passport and visa photo regulations for Brazil are different to those for British passports. Brazilian passport photos now conform to international biometric standards and are very similar to UK passport photos. The visa photos, however, are two inches square (same as American visa photos). An old passport size of 50x70mm has now been replaced by the standard 35x45mm. Though we will still print the old size if your documents require it.

• Subject must be looking straight ahead.
• Glasses are best removed if they reflect the light.
• Background must be plain light grey.

We will make corrections for exposure and colour; we will also remove any shadows from the background.

Driving License, Blue Badge, Miscellaneous

The most common form of non-passport identification photos are for driving licenses, blue badges and travel passes (bus pass, tram pass, train pass). The rules and regulations vary for these photographs. Below is a list of general guidelines common to all of the aforementioned identification photos.

• Subject must be looking straight ahead.
• Glasses are best removed if they reflect the light.
• Facial expression should be neutral.
• No hats or scarves should be worn, unless they are worn for medical or religious reasons.

All necessary corrections will be made to your photos so that they conform to the required specification for your chosen form of identification document.

The current French passport photo has to meet many specifications. We guarantee that our photos will pass all of the French government's regulations.

• No shadows or creative lighting is permitted

Backgrounds will be made to depict the necessary grey. Corrections will be made to compensate for underexposed photos and for colour anomalies due to poor or mixed lighting conditions. Shadows will be removed from the background.

Babies & Children

Passport and Visa Photos

Passport photo regulations for babies and children (children under the age of five) are usually less strict than for adults (depending upon the country). The guidelines below represent the UK passport regulations for baby and child photos, and represent a common international standard. If the regulations for your country are different we will, of course, adhere to your own nation's requirements. We are familiar with all of the passport photo regulations around the world.

• Babies do not have to have their eyes open if they are under one year old
• A neutral expression is not essential.
• The child's head need not be completely straight.
• Children are not required to look directly at the camera.
